Women’s Center of Montgomery County receives $25,000 grant along with volunteer support and other partnership benefits
PHILADELPHIA - Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania and NBC 10 today announced that the Women’s Center of Montgomery County has been selected as the first Community Champion, in a new initiative designed to recognize and support nonprofit organizations for their contributions to the community. The Women’s Center, a domestic violence crisis agency, is the first organization in the Mid-Atlantic region to be rewarded for its accomplishments and will receive a $25,000 grant, media coverage and extensive promotional and volunteer support.
“We are delighted to provide our financial resources and extensive promotional and volunteer efforts behind such an important and vital community organization,” said Stephen D. Steinour, Chairman and CEO of Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania. “One of the goals of the Community Champions program is to create awareness and to build community support for smaller organizations that are making a profound difference in our neighborhoods. The Women’s Center is clearly an exceptional volunteer-based organization dedicated to educating and assisting victims of domestic violence.”
Steinour and NBC 10 General Manager Dennis Bianchi announced the winner on NBC’s 10! show today. They surprised the Women’s Center and its staff members by delivering the news in-person along with balloons and an oversized check for the unrestricted $25,000 grant.
Founded in 1976, the Women’s Center provides counseling, educational and legal services to nearly 4,000 people involved with domestic violence. The center reaches 10,000 students through its violence prevention community outreach program. The center will soon be launching an elder abuse project to meet the increasing need of older victims of domestic violence.
“We are extremely grateful to Citizens Bank and NBC 10 for selecting the Women’s Center as a Community Champion. We reach more than 4,000 victims of domestic violence annually but with increased visibility, so many more people will be able to benefit from our help,” said Maria Macaluso, Executive Director of the Women’s Center of Montgomery County.
“NBC 10 is proud to partner with Citizens Bank to honor such a worthy organization,” said NBC 10 President and General Manager Dennis Bianchi. “It's extremely important that grassroots community-based organizations, like the Women’s Center, continue to receive financial support from the business sector. NBC 10 is committed to this program and we look forward to making a difference in the lives of many.”
As the Community Champion, the Women’s Center will receive:
· A $25,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from Citizens Bank;
· Media coverage from NBC 10, including public service announcements and television profiles;
· Volunteer support from Citizens and NBC 10 employees;
· Extensive public relations support;
· Promotional support, highlighting the Community Champion in all Citizens Bank branches; and
· Exposure on both Citizens Bank and NBC 10 Web sites.
A group of community leaders and representatives of NBC 10 and Citizens Bank comprise the Community Champions committee that selects a nonprofit organization each quarter for its work on a particular social issue.
